GARAGESALETRAILS GUIDE
How to Use AI Scout
AI Scout helps turn an item on your shelf into a clearer next step. Start with a photo, review the information it provides, then choose whether to organize, list, or research the item further.
A practical guide
Turn a photo into item details, pricing guidance, and a stronger listing.
AI Scout is designed to help you identify an item, surface useful details, and create a starting point for a listing. Photos make a difference: capture the whole item in good light, then add close-ups of labels, model numbers, tags, stamps, signatures, included accessories, and any damage or wear.
Treat an AI Scout estimate as guidance, not a guarantee. Compare it with the item’s real condition, local demand, and your chosen selling path. You may want a quick garage sale price, a higher Trail Market asking price, or simply an Inventory record while you decide. Always review and edit the generated description before sharing it with buyers.
A vintage-looking vase may need a photo of the full shape, the base, any maker’s mark, and chips or cracks. A small electronic item may need a photo of the model number, ports, accessories, and proof that it powers on. More useful context can lead to a better starting result, but it does not replace your judgment or independent research.
AI Scout can also help you prepare gradually for a future garage sale. Scan an item when you find it, save the details to Inventory, and revisit the description or price later. This can make sale-day preparation feel more manageable than sorting every item at once.
Use the result as a draft, not a finished listing. Correct the name if needed, add measurements, describe condition honestly, and remove anything that does not apply to the exact item in front of you. This is particularly important for collectible, vintage, safety-sensitive, or incomplete items.
When the app is available in your area, you can choose the path that fits the item: save it for later, prepare it for a garage sale, or consider an individual Trail Market listing. Availability and features may vary during launch.
After reviewing an estimate, use local condition and demand to price garage sale items rather than treating the result as a final appraisal.
Clear inputs lead to more useful drafts, so learn how to take better listing photos before scanning a valuable or unfamiliar item.
When your item is ready, use the details to post a garage sale or prepare an individual listing when available.
AI Scout is designed to reduce the blank-page problem: it can help you move from “what is this?” to a practical next step. It does not replace a professional appraisal, authenticity check, safety inspection, or your responsibility to describe an item honestly.
For a future sale, scan a few items at a time rather than waiting for one large sorting day. Gradual Inventory records can make it easier to group categories, flag questions, and decide what belongs in a garage sale versus an individual listing.
A useful scan starts with the whole item, but close-ups provide the evidence that often matters most. Photograph labels, tags, stamps, model numbers, maker’s marks, accessories, and relevant damage whenever they are available.
For an item with an uncertain history, verify important claims before you repeat them in a listing. A suggested description can save time, but you should edit it for the actual item, its condition, and the information you can support.
Use Inventory as a working list. You can save an item without listing it, add notes after further research, and decide later whether a garage sale or Trail Market listing is the better path.
For a related next step, you can price garage sale items, take better listing photos, or post a garage sale.
- 01
Take a clear photo
Photograph the full item in good light. Add close-ups of labels, signatures, maker marks, or details that might help identify it.
- 02
Review the result
AI Scout may identify the item, suggest useful details, and offer an informational estimate. Review the result and correct anything that does not look right.
- 03
Create a stronger description
Use the suggested details as a starting point for a clear, honest listing description. Add the item’s actual condition and any details a buyer should know.
- 04
Choose your next step
Save the item to Inventory, list it on Trail Market, or group it with items for a future garage sale.
